Released from prison, Valjean (Aragorn) is on parole now. He tries to find work, but is treated with contempt because he is still viewed as a criminal and must carry a slip of paper that shows he is an ex-convict. This only increases his bitterness with the outside world that has wronged him. "And now I know how freedom feels, a jailor always at your heels: it is the 'Law' . . ."

Alone and friendless, Valjean is in disbelief when a kindly bishop (played by Gandalf the White) offers his home to him and gives him food and shelter.
In bitterness and anger, Valjean repays the Bishop of Digne by stealing some silver and fleeing. He does not get far before he is captured. To his utter amazement, the bishop tells the soldiers that he GAVE the silver to Valjean, and Valjean is freed by his mercy. Afterwards, he tells Valjean that he must leave behind the man he used to be, and use the silver to start a better life.

Overcome with guilt at the bishop's mercy when he had only know cruelty and misery before, Valjean trembles to think that he could have the chance to begin his life afresh. Converted in this life-changing epiphany, Valjean breaks his parole and runs away, assuming a new identity and detemined to leave his old life behind . . . .

NOTES:

1. I had to lower the video quality because 8 minutes wouldn't fit on YouTube. Phew! I didn't put in titles in order to make it shorter. So just know that it's edited by me and so forth. XD

2. The second half of this was so hard to make. *whimpers* You see, not only was it hard to find Aragorn clips to match the feelings and words, but my first account had just gotten deleted in December and that was just ..... blegh. I was making it at the exact same time as "The Prison" and I was so happy to get it done! 8 minutes is the longest video I've ever done.

3. I'm sorry that the Gandalf lip-synching sucks. :p Seriously, DerKaiser92 is SO much better at lip-synching Gandalf then I am. (the un-re-uploaded Éomer's Bootcamp)

4. I know I had cast Éomer as Champtheieu in "Who Am I?" (the man who gets arrested) and he's in this one as a policeman; I try to avoid re-casting characters but I sorta needed him for the part. Because Éomer's THAT awesome. LOL

Please leave feedback! I like to know what people think! :)

  • Wow. This is really clever! Les Mis and LOTR are two of my biggest passions. To think of a "mash-up" like this is quite ingenious. I loved watching it. There are other songs/videos, too, huh? Definitely checking them out next.

  • @IsabeauMann

Yes, all the other videos for LOTr/Les Mis are finished now! Took me over two years but at last the series is finished!

  • Yeah, Gimli would work well....lol, the drinking game Leggie won! Just sayin, Gandalf is an awesome cast, but I always picture the Bishop as being a bit younger....kind of like the singer in this recording! Gandalf still rocks, though!

  • True, so did I, but in the LOTR cast he fit the Bishop role the best, LOL

  • Um, nice job on the whole series, really. this especially. I have a question/comment, though. I can't find ABC cafe/Red and Black. Have you done it yet? and if not, Legolas would be a great Courfeyrac. Him or Haldir. Whichever one you can picture as a drunk. I thought Legolas because he would be the elf closest to being Faramir's friend......since Courfeyrac was a 'friend' of Marius's.

  • Thank you for your comments on these videos!! Once in a while I will get really helpful comments from great, insightful people!

To answer your questions: I am still working on the ABC Cafe/ Red and Black.

And I do have Legolas as Courferac! I confess, I only just finish reading the unabridged Les Miserables a short while ago and am specifically assigning the students their "roles". I'm wondering about Grantaire, though. Gimli perhaps? I recall Grantaire missing most of the battle, drunk. :p
