  • History's Lost and Found: The First Parking Meter, documents the work of two engineering professors at Oklahoma State University, H. G. Thuesen and Gerald Hale, who designed and constructed the first operable parking meter at the request of Carl McGee. This video can be seen on youtube.

See the Chronicles of Oklahoma, pages 168-208, Summer 1969, Volume XLVII, Number 2, published by the Oklahoma Historical Society, for further information about the first parking meter.

  • This is one of the reasons why I don't like to go to downtown. Sure Brick Town has a lot to do and see but I hate the parking meters.

Did they ever think that not charging customers to park just might attract customers so they can spend more money on their products/ services? Just wondering.
