  • ben horin or ben hor is met with in Phonecian texts, where it stands for the son of Hor (Horus), the Egyptian deity adopted by the Phonicians. in this form the title crept into the Hebrew, where its original meaning was supressed due to the monotheism of the Israelites. the same happened to many foreign words that received new meanings in Hebrew.
