A tiny bit AU: Kristina is getting abused by her boyfriend Kiefer, but Ethan seems to always save her from him at the right time. Ethan, however, grows uncomfortable by their closeness and sends her off to put distance between them. One night, Kiefer leaves Kristina nearly beaten to death at her home. Ethan finds her after sensing she was in trouble, and takes her to the hospital. Feeling traumatized and not loved, Kristina lets herself be vulnerable, falling victim to Kiefer's father, Anthony Zacchara, and then Dr. Lisa Niles. But through each struggle Ethan is there to catch her, with the both of them realizing they are safe closer together than apart.
