Yes this is the original engine. There was a long magazine article on the history and restoration if this plane.

No, this one was an early model Ki-43I, and only had the two bladed prop. the II and III had the three bladed prop and better engine cooling. btu all suffered from weak armament.

@MirelleLaRouge It may be an original engine, early versions had two bladed props and the telescopic sight as fitted to this one.

I suspect the aircraft has been repowered, as the original unit mounted a 3 bladed propeller.

Brilliant! A very brief but well remembered part of NZ airshow history. Looks like quite a coordinated affair between the guys on the battery cart and in the cockpit. There's nothing as satisfying as bringing a reluctant radial to life!
Yes - this is very original & so valuable that it was not allowed to fly, just a ground effect. Now in US Museum.
