All of this talking about the "grand scheme of things" begs the question: What is the grand scheme? Is there any point to the existence of this whole mess we call universe? Or is it just "there" and that's it?

Not trying to sound like a sensationalist or greatly philosophic or anything, but this question has been bugging me for some time.

I find this sort of thing uplifting because it makes me realise how irrelevant my problems are, in the grand scheme of things.

That's a great way to look at it, others might think of how they them selves are irrelevant.
