How to Upgrade your PS3's Hard Drive

A simple guide on how to upgrade the hard drive on your PS3 including software installation.

To download the latest software go to the PS3 support section on the official playstation website.

When installing the software make sure you create a folder called "PS3" and another folder within that called "UPDATE" (without quotations) The software needs to go in the update folder.

@thekingofirony Its not essential, there isn't really anywhere for the dust to get in, only a very small gap.

Is it very different with the fat ps3? Do i need the same hard drive as the slim ps3? And how do i get all my saves and map packs and such on the new drive? Sorry for all those questions. But you have a new subscriber ;)

@AmritxDhillon Its very similar, there are other videos showing how to do it on the older systems and Its the same drive (2.5inch laptop drive) The only way to keep your saves is to use the backup feature on the PS3 under system settings,However you will need an external usb hard drive or large memory stick to do this which are quite expensive. This is what i was looking for. good video. my hard drive is corrupted or whatever due to downloading a map pack and the power went out durring instalation. notinthg else works, i have done everything on the menu when you hold the button down for 3 beeps and what not. ordered a 320 gig. ill tell you if everything works out and what i needed help with thanks.
