  • All I can say is that to my knowledge, none of these engines worked out of the box. The ones you may see running somewhere, and they are quite scarce, have been extensively reworked. It was simply one of Marklin's disasters they won't talk about. Also, there is no support for these in the US as Marklin never sold them here. Any you find for sale on ebay or wherever have been brought into this country by some individual, not by Marklin.

  • In my experience yes. Mine runs because I had it rebuilt by a skilled machinist here in the US. I can't begin to go into all the things that were wrong with it. If you aren't familiar with live steam locomotives and don't have the ability to work on them then DO NOT GET ONE OF THESE. They had a good idea, used quality parts made by Regner in Germany, but had them assembled in Eastern Europe, Hungary I think, and they turned out to be a disaster.

  • I just found another BR18 for sale. Are you still recommending no to get it? Is there any way to tell which is the non-working model? Or is is just very poor performance?

  • seeing the live steam version running is indeed very rare as 8 out of 10 dont work properly...
