This composition by LJYE musical director John Calloway, PhD., captures the essence of San Francisco's Yerba Buena Gardens ("YBG") where LJYE have been Artists in Residence for three years. Drummer Lawrence McDonald coolly shows his chops backing up a guitar solo by Canek Martinez (5:37), jamming with LJYE alumnus timbalero David Vazquez and bassist Mireya Leon, and again in his drum solo (6:56) and tempo change (8:25). "LJYE" promotes the traditions of Latin Jazz throughout the Bay Area with public concerts and private events from San Francisco to San Jose. Musicians ages 10-18 are selected by audition to participate. Graduates have gone on to work as professional musicians, teachers and composers. Recent alumni attend colleges and universities including Harvard, Yale, Julliard, Manhattan School of Music, UC Berkeley, College of San Mateo and Berklee College of Music. Video produced by Cultural Cross Currents. Recorded live at Yoshi's nightclub 1/4/10.
