This is just a simple test with a SDN144PS and a 16 x 35mm oval speaker this one is around 6 ohms. The SDN144PS comes with a 13mm 8 ohm speaker so I thought this might be a simple cheap way to add sound to HO engines with 8 ohm speakers instead of the 32 ohm speakers that Digitrax normally uses. I can't seem to get any volume out of this thing with normal HO size 8 ohm speakers. I don't think the amp has enough wattage. Although the CVs are set to max volume on the horn the crossing gate sequence function is much louder. Maybe it's just a bad set of sound samples in this thing, but in my opinion MRC has much better sound at this price point. Nothing matches the Tsunami in my opinion, just compare this video to the one with the Tsunami in the same locomotive using the same speaker.

  • You are correct, Tsunami sounds way better out of the box, but Digitrax gives you the ability to load your own custom sounds and blow Tsunami out of the water.

  • @tommie022481 Well I don't think a 8 bit sound decoder will blow a Tsunami out of the water. I agree the Digitrax need a programmer to get some decent sound. It seems like all of the sound decoder manufacturers have some good and bad traits.
