Filmed at the Good Friday Track Meet at Herne Hill in South London, this is a Motor Paced Race (so says the programme) which features Triumph motorcycles riding on the velodrome track acting as wind buffers for the cyclists.

The helmets of the Triumph pace riders are shaped to allow the riders to hear the shouted instructions of the cyclist to increase pace, slow down, overtake, etcetera.

The distance is 50 laps, I've only filmed the first 9 minutes 30 seconds.

The sound of those bikes is incredible, as is the speed that the cyclists maintain throughout the race.

  • Where is this at?

  • Herne Hill Olympic Track in South London

  • London, as in London, England??

  • I'm not sure the Olympics were ever in London, Ontario, so yes.

  • Under their own power, but slip streaming behind the motor paced riders.

They shout to the riders to drive faster and it's how they adjust their speed too.

  • These are 1982 650cc Triumph TR65 Thunderbirds- really nice motorcycles , whether on the road or on the track.

  • @buro9 Yes in 1908 and 1948

  • Well I did not know since there are so many Londons across the world.

  • So are they being pulled or under there own power?
