  • I don't think this guy knows what he's talking about o.o Deinonychus could be 11 ft in LENGTH but in height it was only about 3 ft tall. The raptor Spieldburg changed the name of was Utahraptor which was 6 feet tall like in the movie.

All that aside he's funny XD

  • Well, Spielburg shouldn't have publicly stated he based it off of the Deinonychus then. The Utahraptor is a similar size, sure, but it hadn't even been discovered yet. Also, I use hyperbole.

  • No, the Jurassic Park raptors are definitely Deinonycus (What would the plural be? Deinonychi?). They're not only the wrong size for Velociraptors, the skull is the wrong shape. Both Velociraptor and Utahraptor had long, thin, narrow skulls. Deinonychus had a blunter skull like the raptors in Jurassic Park.

  • Not exactly. Paleeontologist Robbert Bakker was one of the men working with Spielburg on the dinosaurs and actually had been made aware of a huge raptor discovery by an amatuer fossil hunter, utahraptor. Unfortunately it was the end of production and Spielburg had no interest in changing the name, leaving poor Utahraptor out. But yes, I suppose he did base it off of Deinonychus, just blown up more 83
