@rpeggio So to recap, the U.S. gave twice as much in 2009 than the 2nd place country France. Letterman has become so sour and political, it's a shame because I always liked him more than Jay, no more though...especially after he got caught cheating with that <30 yr old staffer that used to appear in some clips on his show..really bad, disgusting really.
For the libs out there. Official Development Assistance by country for 2009 USA – $28.67 B, France – $12.43,Germany – $11.98,UK – $11.50,Japan – $9.48,Spain – $6.57,Netherlands – $6.43,Sweden – $4.55,Norway – $4.09,Canada – $4.01,Italy – $3.31,Denmark – $2.81, Australia – $2.76,Belgium – $2.60, Switzerland – $2.31, Finland – $1.29, Austria – $1.15, Ireland – $1.00, SKorea – $0.82, Greece – $0.61, Portugal – $0.51, Luxembourg – $0.40, New Zealand – $0.31
I'm a left leaning guy who usually get's irritated by Bill, but David really comes off as a jackass here. Bill seems intent on civil discourse and David is ill equipped to debate so he settles with taking cheap shots that reek with vitriol.
@PalaniRides Bill-O went too far with "by miles", but while we aren't *the* most generous, but we are far more generous than Europe, which was the comparison Letterman made with France. The only ones who beat us out were the Canadians, Aussies and New Zealand, and Ireland (only country in Europe to do so). We are tied for 5th with Switzerland. Germany and Denmark are 18th. France doesn't even appear on the list. Google "NY Times economix blog most generous countries"
@ken32708 problem is that David Letterman thinks he is in the same league, and people LISTEN to him. I like his show, but he is not nearly as educated. But Jon Stewart is..he is brilliant, and gets it.
One of the problems with raising capital gains is that it hurts the people who are just starting off in the market and may be buying/selling stocks to build wealth and then reinvest in more stocks. Of course billionaires like Warren Buffett don't mind paying higher taxes, they've already made their fortunes. And I assure you that Buffett (like all the rest) takes advantage of every tax loophole they can (as is their right).
