  • Super interesting. 2008 has nothing on 1975.

  • You're both on target. I think it's a generational thing. The "creative talent" that is involved in 2008 productions (writers, directors, producers) are all young and raised on recent crap. And a generation raised on crap is hardly likely to produce anything good.

  • GOOD GREIF..We have so degressed from all these educational mini series into Dancing with the Stars and American Idol..Oh well..I suppose the Internet takes the place of anything educational nowadays

  • It was great to have only 4 networks in the 70's. TV will never be this good anymore. ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS. Still the best.

  • 7:00 The title "Welcome to Xanadu" (title of the novel) starring Martin Sheen and Linda Blair was changed to "Sweet Hostage" before it aired as an ABC Friday Night Movie.

I loved all of Linda Blair's 1970s TV movies!

  • @AarHan3 No Tom & Jerry was ever any good after the late 1940's - early 1950's.

  • Now THAT was TV!!!

  • @EndCredulity I think you're right. The reason television, movies and music were so much better in the 70's is because the writers, song writers and producers of the 70's cut their teeth on writing for radio and theater. You need to have a tremendous amount of talent to write for radio or theater because the visuals you have to work with are so limited. Today, if they can't think of something to write they just add an explosion to the scene to try and keep your attention.

  • 1975-76 Funshine Saturday on ABC was also the season which saw the debut of my favorite version of Tom & Jerry: The New Tom & Jerry/Grape Ape Show!

    And I don't question it. :^)

  • @bbofun That`s so true and I never thought of it that way before.Only a select few would have owned VCR`s in 1975 and you couldn`t even rent movies then if you did.

  • Fred Silverman, hired away from CBS (he was responsible for making the network #1 in ratings from 1971 through '75), made significant changes by mid-season {pairing "HAPPY DAYS" with "LAVERNE & SHIRLEY" on Tuesdays, spinning off "THE BIONIC WOMAN" from "THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN", putting greater emphasis on "RICH MAN, POOR MAN" by scheduling it on multiple nights, and promoting the hell out of it, "FAMILY", et. al.} that ABC surpassed CBS as the #1 network at the end of the season.

  • @EndCredulity I am of THAT generation who has all of this material sitting in my house with things films like this waiting to be sold! I have to leave this country to get them produced. Blessed me to bring back the right material! I am in my 40s and the crap airing today is complete and lazy garbage! Bless and Pray that I will gwt the best back to the people! Amen! I am a true writer ready to be discovered and not in this place!
