Ele morreu por negligência médica. Ele esteve todo o tempo, desde o local do acidente até o hospital, totalmente consciente e só teve lesões nas pernas!! Ele até falou com um dos seus amigos no hospital e disse: "Se conseguiram ajeitar o Grahan Hill também vão conseguir comigo". Não havia nada de tão com ele, se o acidente tivesse sido na Alemanha ou na Inglaterra ele não teria morrido, já que a qualidade técnica desses países era muito maior que da Itália na época.
