Calgary General Hospital Demolition

I was born there

This was very ironic because they could have refurbished it. Ever since the explosion Calgary has been short of hospital rooms and beds. Now the city is making huge upgrades to other hospitals. There is also another new hospital being built in south east Calgary. These infrastructure costs are into the billions of dollars and coming from the taxpayers pockets. Its not just city taxpayers either, the Alberta gov. has been funding this as well. Anyone who lives and works in AB is paying for this.

@garycalgary The new hospital in the south side of the city is estimated to be about 1.7 billion by the time its finished in 2017. 500 million to refurbish the General right in the downtown seems like a better deal.

I lived there at the time. It was the loudest thing I have ever heard.

woa. that was a big building!

aparently they set a world record for most buildings imploded at once. 12 building where imploded in total. they where connecting to each other(hospital expansion ect). i could see the dust cloud from shawnessy.

Man, I was born in that hospital! Out of curiousity, could anyone tell me the former address/general location where the Calgary General Hospital was, and/or what's there now?

there are condos and a strip mall there now.

The community it was in is called Renfrew. They have buit condos on that site. Sad because the city has grown to well over a million people and we need more hospitals here.
