@kealyc1 Market Garden failed because he wasn't supported by the American ground forces, the Americans wanted to do everything, forgetting who they were actually trying to fight. If they'ed given him complete control the Redball Express would have punched through to Arnhem

@kesselrunfun - Monty should have resigned after Market Garden. He put a whole airborne division in an impossible position by ignoring reliable intelligence reports.

@167ray - don't be sorry for giving a long geeky answer. The person receiving your answer should be sorry if he / she fails to understand it.

@allgoonersaregay 'Monty should have hung for this'! What are you talking about! If it wasn't for American intervention Monty would have had full control over the army and he'd have got to Arnhem in time! you're talking absolute crap!

Queen Victoria saw, unlike some others at the time, that the grandeur of the medal should not correspond to the amount of bravery required to win it. The metal and medal itself can - and I think should - be valueless, so as not to distract people for what is important. It is simply a vehicle for the memory of the person, and could equally be a scrap of paper.
What exactly does the fellow from Hancock's mean when he says the bronze is "unstable?" What does "stability" mean in metals?

@Rickinsf talking from a scientific point of view a stable metal is one that is fairly unreactive. It won't react with air, water etc as readily as an unstable metal would. I guess what he means is that because its bronze from cannon and therefore not pure, it contains other metals too that make it more reactive to the air or give it a lower melting point or make it softer....something like that. sorry for the long/geeky answer :p
