Coimbra holds a special place in the hearts of the Portuguese. Rich in history, and said to be the oldest seat of learning in Portugal, with a University founded in 1290, which makes it the first ever in Europe. At first sight the town appears more devoted to commerce than learning, but the skyline above the lower part of the city suggests its real purpose.
Coimbra has grown strongly over the last decade, but lacked modern retail formats. To visit a modern shopping centre of good quality and diversity, Coimbra people had to travel more than 100 kilometres. The large, 30 minutes catchment area, consists of 350,000 inhabitants, who represent a purchasing power exceeding the national average. Forum Coimbra satisfies the needs of its prosperous population.
