zgoepel, I didn't stay at any resort, I actually stayed at a friend's place who also had a boat to take me out to the launch spot. We basically launched of potatoe field. You can stay in any of the towns around the lake though. There are cheap places, and you could rent a "lancha" boat for the day to help you. Atitlan is an amazing place. If you get the chance to kite there, enjoy!
