  • I'd be more likely to say, If you vote, but then sit on your ass for four years, you can't complain.

But still, thanks for making this. People do need to be reminded of the basics, eh?

  • I agree on both counts. The "can't complain" line doesn't apply to those who aren't allowed to vote, of course. I think they should lower the voting age to 16 and also extend municipal voting rights to all residents regardless of citizenship.

And your second point about civic engagement in between elections is dead on. There are so many ways to get involved and make a difference. This video focusses exclusively on electoral engagement, simply because we're five days away from an election.

  • Heeeey, is that the music of The Hidden Cameras? rock on.

  • Yup! The first part is the intro to Gentleman Reg's "First Time Everything" and the part at the end is the final strums of the Camera's "Smells Like Happiness"

  • Fair enough - and again, thanks a lot for making this. (The "you can't complain" thing is just a pet peeve for me - I hear it a lot, and it ignores the fact that there are many people who have thoughtful reasons for why they don't vote. I don't agree with them when it comes to municipal elections, but there's still a difference between apathy and objection.)

  • Nice spot. But:

"If you don't vote, you can't complain later"

What about immigrants? The homeless? People without status? Youth? They can't complain?

After I do vote, I'll be complaining about the lack of direct democracy - which is also the main reason I wouldn't vote.

Voting's a good thing, and a good start in making change, but it's the tip of the political iceberg, not the way to judge whether someone's a citizen or not.

  • Truly Inspiring, Your video is a must-see for every resident and citizen in the Greater Golden Horseshoe. I'm looking forward to seeing this played on the big screens at Pauper's Pub on Monday night.
