Almas de la Plaza- Site Specific Video Installation
Displayed on the face of a late 1800s building that is now the new Plaza Hotel expansion, "Almas de la Plaza" has been a strong artistic success. Located in the Historic Las Vegas Plaza, the public video installation ran throughout the winter 2008-2009 season and was viewed nightly by an estimated 30-40 viewers per night during its two month run. The content of the piece was driven by historical reenactments of local Las Vegas, New Mexico characters who played a role in the founding of Las Vegas as well as the founding of New Mexico as it grew from a United States territory to fully incorporated statehood. The community of Las Vegas and visitors from as far away as Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos, and Velarde delighted in traveling to learn more about local New Mexico history.
