Please comment. I welcome opinions from both anti racing people and racing fans. But no extremely rude comments please, either defending racing or against racing.

Also note that I myself am a huge racing fan and that I always will be. Im just saddened by the recent spate of breakdowns. In no way is this supposed to be an anti racing video.

I just want to say that the points you make in this video are very good. I'm from Britain so our rules are slightly different, jockeys are only allowed to whip their horses a certain amount of times in the final stretch for example. I dont think racing is cruel, the horses wouldnt run if they didnt like it. But it needs to be controlled. Look at dog fighting, its illegal and yet dogs still suffer, if it was legalised and controlled it would be as bad. Which is the lesser of two evils?

I know kinda what it feels like. Today our PE teacher had us jump really high jumps (and I'm only 5.7 so I'm not that tall) and when I tried to jump it (i donMt remember how big it was) I made it barely but now I have a broken leg :( and yesterday my class challenged me to a race and I won and my legs were worn out too fast. I wish they were still alive (the horses)

I am a horse racing fan too, but I might have to correct you because the Jockeys do not actually whip the horses, they just show them that the whip is there.

I dont hate racing but I agree things could be done to make it safer for the animals. Instead of just trying to make a buck. If the trainer/owner didnt start the horses earlier 2 that might help. Thorughbred horses take the longest of almost all horses to complete the growing process properly starting any horse in my opinion before they are 2-3 is cruel.

None of these horses would be alive were it not for racing, I'm sure we can all agree on that ? Horses love to run, all agree ?

A jockey has one of the most dangerous jobs in sport. He is almost totally unprotected. The whip is part of his protection, it is used more often than not to straighten the horse up and there would be far more accidents if whips were banned.

When Eight Belles was put down there would have been enormous losses for the owners in stud fees. It was the right thing to do.

Thank you for the informed and factually based video instead of just ranting about racing.

ANY sport, from dance to cheerleading to equine sports always carries a risk of permanent injury or death to any participant. The only way to avoid this is strict and proper evaluation of the athlete (and in this case both jockey and horse) and their technique. A dancer can't go en pointe till her bones are fully developed. Horses shouldn't be raced until their bones have fully solidified.

horses are one of the mmost beautiful creatures, I have no issues with racing, if anything it shows off these wonderful animals & I agree some things could be done better.
