The Hoorn, Holland Stream Train departs from Hoorn (daily most days) and ends at Medemblik. The trip takes about 1.5 hrs one way. Hoorn is about 25 minutes by road from Amsterdam. The steam train(s) is maintained by 250 volunteers. The fleet has 8 trains, most in prestine condition. The train is coal powered and does not use electricity in any way. It takes about 5 hours to build to steam from a cold start.
