FANU - HAGAKURE (Lightless)

This week we proudly present the almighty breakbeat guru FANU who was feeling the work at DUBSnBREAKS so much that he provided the breakbeat fused beast; HAGAKURE from his most recent DAYLIGHTLESS album. The track has an ominous, deep and brooding intro. Dark, sinister and haunting pads sinisterly lurk in the background as a perfectly chosen vocal sample talks about the 'Way of the Samurai'. Soft and gentle breakbeats soon start to drive the track forward, matching and complimenting the vibe of the track. After a while, the track suddenly drops into a crazy mash up of breaks and bass. Fanu slices, chops and rearranges the breakbeats perfectly, layering a selection of different drums and patterns creating an insane energy whilst retaining the deep and dark mood of the track. Amazing tune and one that truly displays the power of well edited breakbeats.

I love the atmosphere and the tight beat syncapations. The jazz elements and sound effects and filter sweep on the drums added somethign extra I needed. My score is 9 out 10.
