Here's a neat way to increase the cooling on your Fiat X1/9, watch John Edwards as he explains how he modifies the engine compartment lid vents to allow additional air flow in and around the engine. www.engine-machining.com (949) 631-6376

  • Hey, nice mod there but what happens when it rains? I've seen people take off the inner shroud completely, does this achieve the same effect? With the gap on the top now, won't rain water flow into the engine bay?

  • I has rained pretty good here in SoCal lately and I drove my X w/o any problems. The gap isin't as big as it might seem, but it sure does improve the cooling!

  • John, you ARE a F.I.A.T. nut!

  • I ddn't get the original engine cover when I bought my X1/9 ,instead it had a modified Piagio Ape engine cover. I've driven my car in pouring rain, w/o any trouble. And I don't get any heating probs too. When I get the original cover fabricated,I'm going to follow John' s method!

  • great idea for cooling! I had been thinking of mounting a snorkel similar to those seen on the MR2's to get some extra air into the bay for 2 reasons, first to get cooler intake air and second to try and get rid of a vapor lock problem that happens every so often when the side vent fans don't kick in, you think this would get enough air onto the fuel rail?

  • lots of fiat x19 in Dallas!!!

  • Cool! Probably end up doing this to my X when I get him firing on all 4 cylinders again...

  • perfect!!

  • I got one of those Fiats in the junk yard don't think it runs but the body is good.

I'd kinda like to put a Nissan FWD powertrain in the rear. Preferably a SR20det but I think that maybe too big and heavy for the little fiat. A civic maybe better for it interms of similar weight and size to not wreck the handling.

  • paint that to make it match the car
