More containers and oil have spilled from the stern section of the Rena after it sunk this morning.
Container recovery company Braemar Howells has told ONE News a "handful" of containers have come off the sunken section of the Rena and two tugs are at the scene to deal with them.
About 75% of the stern section is submerged and it is expected to fully sink today.

The Rena's entire accommodation section is now under water and life rafts have detached from the back.

The bow section remains unchanged in place on the reef, where the stranded ship split into two pieces overnight on Saturday, Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) said.

A small amount of oil has been released from the stern section, along with debris - mostly timber.

MNZ trajectory modelling shows that the first oil is likely to reach Motiti Island this evening and more is expected to reach the shore at Pukehina tomorrow.

MNZ said the amount of oil released would be only a fraction of the amount spilled in October.

Booms are being set up in sensitive areas and the oiled wildlife centre in Tauranga is being reactivated in preparation for the oil.

Braemar Howells estimates 400 containers are in the stern section of the Rena.

Transport Minister Gerry Brownlee said there was no immediate harm to people or the environment from the sinking and that the biggest issue is identifying how much oil is still on board and ensuring it does not spill.
