funny how he doesnt talk about how it pushes your backpresure back into the engine and turbo and destroys the engine or how it uses 30% more fuel in the "cleaning" process.

DPF in a new curse on new diesels despite all fairy tail stories this salesman telling. If you want heahache than buy DPF diesel

Some manufacturers take advantage of the way a DPF works - it's a steady income for forcing regeneration in the UK. Vauxhall do it as their DPFs have been a disaster so far. They are programmed so that if regeneration isn't completed, the engine fault light comes on and the car goes in to "limp home" mode. It's no good having to use far more fuel and having to drive for 20mins to regenerate - it causes pollution and increases running costs. It is not effective for businesses to use a DPF!

500 PPM sulfer diesel was the best fuel before ULSD ever came out. Now fuel distribution pumps in pre DPF era are paying the ultimate price.

I know for a fact that the Ford 6.4's and Cummins 6.7's get about half the MPG of the previous diesels offered in them. the DPF burns fuel in the exhaust to raise exhaust temps to about 1100 deg. that no only burns extra fuel but also greatly shortens the life of the engine. The DPF reduces engine life, that means people will be buying new truck much more often and scraping the old ones early, What a waste of resourses, energy, money, and the environment. we also burn more fuel too
my red dpf light turned on on my 2008 isuzu npr. I tried regenerating but light did not go off. I tried running truck at more than 40mph and light turned off but now the yellow check engine light is on. Is it safe to drive like that? and how much will it cost if i take it to the dealer?

@kaosSSS The cost would depend on what specifically the problem is. In some cases, especially since your truck is only two years old, it might be covered under warranty, in which case it wouldn't cost you anything. The best way to find out is to take it to a dealer and ask for a quote on the repair.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both the EGR (like Navistar) and the SCR (like Isuzu). Neither is "ahead" of the other.
