This video goes over MIDI editing to a fairly large degree using Cubase and Reason. This video is ideal if you're completely new to either package, and need a means of either importing sounds from Reason into Cubase, or simply new to MIDI editing as a whole.

This video assumes you have a basic understanding of notation and key names.

Semiquaver (half a quaver / half a sixteenth)
Quaver (one quaver / one sixteenth)
Crotchet (four quavers / four sixteenth's)
Minim (eight quavers / eight sixteenth's)
Semibreve (thirty-two quavers / thirty-two sixteenth's)

Specifically, this video covers:
● Rewiring of Cubase & Reason.
● Editing MIDI notes.
● Use of the toolbar (object select, cut, trim, mute, etc).
● Note velocity.
● Use of the 'mute' and 'solo' buttons.
● Quantising.
● Cycling a section of music.

Reason in this video is the software package that can be used as a source of instruments, that may be hard to get elsewhere. Software packages used are Cubase 5 and Reason 4.

  • I was wondering if you could please help me. I have the Behringer UMX610 midi controller and midi works perfectly, but I would like to know if there is a tool that allows me to "pitch down" the midi so that, for example, the middle of my keyboard with be moved down a pitch, if you understand what Im saying.. I want one note to be lower, but still the same note. I know how to do it once you've recorded, but can you do it live, while u listen to urself play? Thanks so much!

  • @1DoubleMproductionS1 You would need a MIDI device which can move your pitch down after you've told it to. This function usually comes with the slightly more expensive keyboards, and I'm guessing with the more complicated MIDI keyboards as well.
