The book is excellent and worth a read. It goes into so much more detail than the movie. I would definately recommend it, it's a little heavy at times but that just has to do with Ian McEwan's writing style more than anything. Happy reading.

meaning that the writing style does not flow easily at times.  But this is just my opinion. The book is excellent in spite of this and is worth the read.

It was rape but it's not really to do with the age, it's just...yeah, it wasn't consenual therefore it was rape.

I think in the context of a 15 year old, it was most definitely rape. There's a big difference between a 15year old and an adult of 21(?) in what they mean flirting to be, and I think the repeated allusions to the scratches on Marshall's face and the bruises on Lola's arms are intended to give us the impression that this was very much assault and certainly not consensual.
