An easy, entertaining hike in Faugères, in the Languedoc region of southern France. Faugères is well-known among wine lovers for its schist vineyards and aspirations.
No "montagne noire" at Faugères, it's called the "Haut Languedoc", Faugères is in the regional Haut Languedoc natural park, 30 kilometres north of the Mediteranean Sea and west of Montpellier. Some carabelle (called borie in Provence) date back to the 17th century and were shepards shelters, built to use up the piles of stones which speckle the landscape to be used for grazing. Around Faugères, over 50 of these have been restored in the last 10 years. They are made of dry stone, no cement.
