Guido's step-by-step method to learn a soft back breakfall - useful from a harsh and fast irimi-nage or if you don't have the surface for slide ukemi.

  • Hi djresonance!

I wont lie about it and say that was either easy or fast to learn it, took me several months and i did it the hard way - i saw many people doing and i (along with a great friend of mine) tried to do it. We got hurt some times and unless u have some1 that knows how to fall and it's a responsible sensei to teach u, i would advise you to don't speed up your fall training based on my video.

    take care!

  • what I can't initiate in this fall is the legs going upwards... :D

  • is this technique likely to damage the spine by twisting?

  • you need to make another tutorial, i didnt get this at all, when i tried this i almost broke my shoulder, make another one!

  • szału nie ma

  • This ukemi isn't meant to save you from impact of long distance falls or throws. It is used by uke to fall softly while irimi techniques. In this kind of techniques uke is going towards tori and tori stops his upper body while forward momentum makes uke's legs fly to the sky :D

  • while graceful, I don't see that it has much ability to actually cope with a lot of backwards speed...

that and putting that arm down at an angel just off and with said amount of high speed could very quickly turn into a really bad day for your elbow and wrist.

  • hehe, neko ukemi, never heard of it before but its not a improbable name. Neko means cat and the ukemi is soft just like a cat. :) I want to learn that it looks so nice!!

  • This is most excellent, showing from the ground up how to get a decent role.

    5/5 and farvourited. :-)

  • Thanks for sharing your ukemi techniques. Good for all martial artists! ^_^

  • These soft ones are usually called neko ukemi in Japanese.

But there is no clear naming convention.

("ushiro" and "mae" simply means front and rear, so that is just generic)
