BBC Program, Remembrance - The Sikh Story Full program, first aired on the 9NOV2010.

Documentary examining why followers of the Sikh religion were marked out as a 'martial race' under the British Empire, and how thousands of Sikh soldiers valiantly laid down their lives for Britain's freedom across two world wars.

With contributions from eminent historians, military experts and war veterans, the film features the last-ever interview with legendary WW2 Squadron Leader Mahinder Singh Pujji, and the first television broadcast of a rare audio recording of a WW1 Sikh prisoner of war, handed to Britain in 2010 after 94 years in German hands.

  • PROUD TO BE SIKH!!

  • @MrHendry111 She read history but makes a living researching for media producers and personalities, so it is easy to detect the politically correct slant of structural determinism which lends credibility in such eyes. Attention to the detail, perspective and past lives of Gurkhas take 2nd place to that of those whose descendants are a significant plural pressure group within the UK. The program does honour Sikhs, but it is still BBC entertainingly presented sociology of the past.

  • Men and Women are part of the Khalsa not just men.

  • I hate war but my Respects to the Sikhs whose religion I just started studying

  • I don't agree with the comments about Britain discounting the help of Commonwealth and Empire troops in WW2, admittedly I mix with people with an interest in military history but I know that amongst them nothing could be further from the truth, we deeply respect and acknowledge the huge contribution made by all those from the Empire and British Commonwealth who fought against the Axis.

  • What a brave and noble people! The Sikhs were among the first people who stood up to the Moslems and refused to be second class "dhimmis" or "kakfirs."

  • Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

  • I've a serious doubt, the lady Alex von Tunzelmann are you a historian in true sense or you just add up with the second hand story, just to have some name and fame. let me tell you the fact Gurkhas who fought for British empire for more than 300 years is still proudly serving the Queen is from Nepal not from India, I just want to let you know please respect your profession after all you are a historian and you have all the duty to give me the correct information about the history or present.
