This happened when a Castle ESC on the 700E Radio controlled helicopter caught fire midflight and crashed into dry grass igniting a 59 acre grassfire. Unfortunately, the pilot could not reach the crash site before it was in a huge fireball and requring assistance from 2 tanktrucks, helicopter and bulldozer. No structures were threatened by this blaze

  • @trexinvert We personally know the pilot and know for a fact the ESC caught fire midflight and started smoking. In fact Castle has put out a recall bulletin on these 120 ESC controllers.

  • What's more likely a heavy duty ESC rated at high current catching fire in midflight? Or....a simple crash but pilot forgot to switch on throttle hold. The blade kept turning and motor and esc burned out from the load?
