Christchurch is open for business and welcoming visitors back to the city, despite Saturday's earthquake. 98% of tourism operators, attractions, hotels and accommodation providers are open and there is still plenty to see and do in the Garden City.
Bob Parker is desperately milking this disaster for all it's worth - he was well on the way to losing the mayoralty before the earthquake struck. He hasn't lost his eye for a photo/video op in Christchurch's hour of danger and his hour of electoral need. But leading a reconstruction of the city that is driven by the needs of the people rather than by profit-driven developer opportunism will take more than Bob's brand of narcissistic showmanship.
I CAN'T WAIT TO VISIT NZ!!! I'm going there next year on a working holiday for 12 months, i cant wait to get away from crappy old England for a while lol :-/
@4x4adventures But he is a liar - he says no one was injured! Maybe you need to get your ears cleaned out, listen carefully at 26/27 seconds in. 2 people were badly INJURED and the man who was in a coma has just come out of it. You have clearly been suckered in by the corporate fascist mainstream media.
@joeystation7 Nobody was KIILLED, yes two were injured but one already has gone home. Considering apart from those two that were in the news injuries were minor mainly sustained in peoples own homes there is no reason why tourists cant return to the city and our attractions. Bob Parker is doing a great job. The quake was the same as in Haiti just to put it into perspective wherer there were thousands killed!!!
Bob Parker is a liar, he says nobody was injured in the earthquake, tell that to the man who is presently in an induced coma. Google christchurch and man crushed by chimney in induced coma
My family and I were talking today and we will be down there from auckland in a few weeks or so once things have settled down on a big shopping spree to help support our fellow kiwis.
