Also, the panels make a "ringing" sound to the Djembe. I believe they are tin,but not for sure. There are little holes in them-that is what gives the drum that particular sound.

Thanks! C'est un plaisir de revoir Daouda. J'étais à Ségou chez lui en 2000 et j'en garde de formidables souvenirs musicaux et humains. Je me rappelle encore des vieux djembés sur lesquels on jouait et des bonnes rigolades suite à son français approximatif et à mon bambara inexistant.
