How does audiosurf work anyway?

The program analyzes various aspects of the song (volume, tempo, rhythms, etc) and creates a "track" out of it. Different colored blocks have different point values and come at different parts of the song, with red blocks being highest value (and appearing at especially intense moments in the song). I'm not sure what algorithm they use but it's pretty effective.
