  • POWER = MASS X DISTANCE divided by TIME.

    Example: Moving a 150 pound body 3 feet in .5 seconds equals 900 LB/FT/SEC of power generated or work done (150 X 3 divided by .5 = 900).

So to increase power you could (A) increase backup mass,

    (B) increase distance you move the mass, and/or (C) decrease the time (go faster).

    Regards,

    JB

  • @JonBelcherKenpo distance/time=speed :)

  • The power formula is: mass X distance divided by time.

    Regards,

    JB

  • i agree guys, in the end if it works for you, that is all that counts.

  • agreed to a point. The most important weapon in a fight is the mind therefore planning, accuracy, and adapting to the flow of combat wins over speed and mass. However guys don't sell yourselves short (no pun intended) speed times mass does not equal power. The formula for this is KE = 1/2m X (v X v). a 1lb (m) fist moving 2ft per second (v) has more kinetic energy (or power) than a 2lb fist moving 1ft per second. So a smaller guy with more speed has the potential to deliver more energy.

  • Awesome job guys. Keep up the great work.

  • speed brings power a bullet is just a bullet until you fire it from a gun then its deadly.

  • As far as power is concerned, Power comes from torque, angle of execution, gravitational marriage, and just plain need.

  • As I have said many times before, I respect you guys. Your techniques are spot on and you move very well. I do dissagree with one thing you said though. Timming through exercises like hree count, five count and others is not "popcorn Kenpo". If you look at my video on 3 count on my fb, you will see my student wincing. I was hitting him fast, not hard. I do reboundoff of my body to cut the time it takes for a punch, backknuckle, hand sword...ect. This is the way I was taught Kenpo.

  • Yeah, I bet you love to experiment.
