Firstly it is an insult to the victims of the holocaust to compare them to members of the working class that became unemployed. Secondly the unions had to much power don't you remember the newspapers stopped printing, power shortages and blackouts, and the UK economy being immobilised due to the union members? Thirdly the collapse of heavy industry was inevitable as other countries were able to produce fuel, steel, ships etc. at lower prices than the UK could.

When MTV first came out, they would play this video all the time. To this day it still creeps me out a little bit. This song kind of describes America today: Only the people wont be getting angry because they are all receiving handouts from the Government. The ones to rise up will be the working class who happen to be paying for the rest to sit on their asses.

you have a fair point but do you think sending hundreds of soldiers to take back a tiny island on the other side of the planet is justified?

The Falklands was and is inhabited by around 2900 British subjects who are proudly British. No country can just forfeit that many people to another country. The Falkland islanders had been there before Argentina had even existed. The British soldiers did not die for a ridiculous reason they died maintaining peoples freedom in a job which sometimes calls for the ultimate sacrifice.

Having lived through the era, this song is not only brilliant but prophetic. Probably the best British reggae that ever happened...and I know that Staples and Golding were black but it was Dammers who wrote the stuff. I agree with Mr Alexander it is a scary song, and it is meant to be. Problem is that 30 years on its message has come back to haunt us. Deep respect to Jerry D.
