@ljevlkenvlknv Sorry buddy. Hammett, Wylde and mustaine are all over rated hacks. Wah pedals and pinch harmonics make you flashy, not good. Kirk is the sloppiest guitarist I've ever seen reach that kind of fame and megadeth fans think mustaine is god because he's a LITTLE better. Wylde never plays outside of the major or pent. scale and he just does runs with squeals. That's guitar shredding 101 and very un impressive.

If you're strictly talking about technicality, then there are a lot of guitarists that can out play him. The problem is, they just sound like self indulgent wankers screaming "look what I can do." The kind of people that put a 40 billion note a second solo in the middle of a fucking ballad. Solo's are meant to be an extension of the song and NOT sound out of place and that's why those people play clubs. I'm talking to you yngwie malmsteen.

He's by no means a god, but if you think he's not that great at all then sorry but those 12 years did shit for you. There is far more to being a good guitarist than being technical. That's what my 16 years playing have taught me. I used to say the same shit about Slash and it was just because it only took me 7 years to be able to play anything that he can. But try WRITING like that, whole other ball game.

@xImpendingChapelxAAF The thing your missing (and we're on the same page about not wanting to sound pompous) is that this solo isn't about technicality. He's got other solo's that are just showcases of his talent, this one is just meant to be melodic and rocking you know? What I like about guitarist such as gates is they understand that a technical guitarist doesn't = a good guitarist. You need the melodies and you need to know when to hold back or let it rip for the songs sake.

@RyanBadminton Agreed. I mean, I'm a huge A7X fan and they're probably the only "modern" band I listen to on a regular basis but as good as Gates is, he can't touch Tipton or Downing.

Pains me to say it, but he could mop the floor with the modern day Kirk Hammett though and that's a shame.
