The railroad had to have that pedestrian bridge raised years ago because of newer, taller railcars.

OH MY GOD!! Someone found my railfan place. It is a great experience to be there when that happens. My dad showed me this place. I still live in Springfield and will go back to this spot soon. THANK YOU!!!

...and what I forgot to add is, the deck of this bridge isn't THAT deep. Even though it's solid, the bottom of your shoe seem like only a foot to 18 inches above the top of these automobile and double-stack container cars. I, too, was taken to this bridge as a child in the 60s - it's a truly fascinating experience for a railfan.

My dad used to take me to that bridge back in the early to mid 60's and I took my kids there in the 80's. A GREAT place to watch what is left of the old FRISCO and now BNSF in Springfield.

That particular engine has a great horn. Nice vid.

great view!
Don't want to sound condescending, but until you've stood on this bridge when a "rack-and-stack" train like this comes under it you've no idea what it's like. The autorack and double stack cars pass what looks like less than 6 inches under your feet. You swear it looks like the next car is going to hit (and take out) the bridge. It feels like a disaster movie that you're starring (and stuck) in.

@livestockdana Hey, Dana. Hope that didn't sound bad. I meant to people who've not been on this bridge (a hidden gem in Springfield) I've never seen anything like how close the top of those automobile and double stack container cars pass under the deck of the bridge. I'm serious - I took my son up when we were visiting Springfield and he, too, thought it looked like the railcars were going to hit the bridge...gives you an uneasy feeling but these high-car trains routinely go under it daily.
