you put it in the wrong way. theres a picture that shows the way to put it. You didn't put it that way, also most machines only accept ones or fives, i've never seen one that takes twenty in my 75 years.

umm first of all 20 years ago they did not have magnetic strips in the bills. in fact the new ones don't have magnetic strips either they are plastic strips with silver print on them, even the silver isn't magnetic. It works because it images the bill in high resolution. On top of all that the $1 bills don't have strips at all.
the strips in new bills are used for xray imaging at air ports to insure people aren't taking large amounts of cash in or out of the country.
