On 2nd July 2011 the old Maltese buses will stop servicing commuters. They will be replaced by Chinese-manufactured modern, air-conditioned buses. Here is a tribute to those adorable old pieces of metal junk that despite the fumes, dirt arrogance and inefficiency of their drivers made our roads colourful and adventurous. We hope that the new service will be better for those who use it although the several reports and videos we found of King Long buses catching fire makes one wonder which buses we'll end up loving more.

Hey..I live in OZ..lots of Maltese here...your old buses are a hoot! How can you not love them? Do yurself a favour and drown the Arriva buses...chuck em off the cliffs. And bring back the old buses....will be back to Malta soon..love the country...hot old buses, no air con..thats what windows are for...bring back the old buses!

To the maltese people. Arriva are so bad in England that I have set up a protest in my city against them!!!!

Im not maltese and have only been to Malta twice but I would have to say that switching to Arriva buses is a bad idea. The old buses were noisy and somewhat unreliable (understandable due to age of many of the buses) but in my opinion, that was part of the charm.

@sabsrule how do you like them now then, three months later? I mean they are exceptional aren't they. You only have to wait for about an hour for one to turn up, and then spend another 45 minutes standing up cause they're all full up. Really great service isn't it!
