The Fighter is a 2010 biographical sports film directed by David O. Russell, and starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. The film centers on the life of professional boxer "Irish" Micky Ward (Wahlberg) and his older half-brother Dicky Eklund (Bale). Amy Adams co-stars as a love interest of Ward. The Fighter is Russell and Wahlberg's third film collaboration, following Three Kings and I Heart Huckabees.
The film was released in select North American theaters on December 10, 2010 (limited) and is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom on February 4, 2011.

Plot

As a welterweight from the wrong side of the tracks, Dicky Eklund is the pride of working class Lowell, Massachusetts. Living in his shadow is his half-brother and sparring partner Micky Ward. After fighting Sugar Ray Leonard, Dicky plunges into a nightmare of crack addiction, violence and prison. His family's hopes are crushed in the wake of Dicky's decline. Like a real life Rocky, Micky fights on his own terms and pulls his family out of despair with his meteoric rise in the ring. Freshly paroled Dicky finds redemption training his little brother, now known as "Irish" Micky Ward, for his Welterweight Championship bout with Shea Neary.

  • Not only did Christian Bale and Melissa Leo deserve (and luckily win) Best Supporting Roles...but Mark Wahlberg should have been nominated too. I mean I dont think he should have won because of heavy competition, but he SURE AS HELL deserved a nod.

And as much as i loved ALL the nominated films this year...Personally I think this deserved Best Picture over The King's Speech ANY DAY.

  • Amazing performance! He deserved the Oscar!

  • Why's batman in jail? Isn't he suppose to fight crime?

  • He's a Freaking Monster!

i've never seen someone transform himself physically and specially... mentally like Bale

  • Great scene when Mickey was getting pummelled by Sanchez

and Dickie was in prison yelling to his mother on the phone:

    "He's gotta go inside Ma!

He's gotta take it to the body!

    He's gotta!"

  • @chrisislame its cuz christian bale is too real for tha acting world, hes too on point

  • He is a fucking chameleon.

  • @americanpsycho28 oh yea that too he's just been a great actor since day one he was even good in reign of fire

  • @chrisislame He should have been nominated even before The Machinist. His iconic performance in American Psycho deserved an Oscar nomination.

  • Christian Bale didn't deserve his oscar. Mark Whalberg had the supporting role in that movie.
