What are your thoughts on stay at home dads if the woman really wants to work? Or even if both want/need to work?
This question was posed to Pastor Mark Driscoll and his wife Grace at the end of Pastor Mark's sermon called Sweet To My Taste, which can be found at http://www.marshillchurch.org/media/t...

Wow, I'm not necessarily disagreeing with their position, but what a misapplication of scripture! 1 Tim 5:8, taken in context, is talking about taking care of the widows that one may be related to when they are in great need, not the immediate family circle. Additionally, the Greek is gender neutral, literally: "If ANY does not provide for their own family..." To limit this to solely men is quite the reductionistic fallacy, to apply it to a stay at home dad is also quite an exegetical stretch.

Dear commenters & anyone else who thinks he is right. NEVER just assume that because some "said it was in the bible" he is right. LOOK IT UP. The verse is 1 Timothy 5:8 and says "Anyone" not "Any man". It is speaking about taking care of those closest to you but in no way specifies that it has to be monetary.

It's almost as if you didn't watch the whole thing...."maybe you get injured, you get sick, you get cancer, totally understood, we're not legalist. If you are an able bodied man, your job is to provide for the nededs of your family". I agree with you to an extent, it is not black and white e.g. "your a man you can't stay at home". If you are able to get to work man up and do it. No one is calling your dad lazy and he is not less of man for staying at home.

Speaking from experience, don't waste your time responding to Isabelle M and those like her. Be the better man or woman. Follow biblical principles but use discernment and seek counsel with your interpretation. Above all else seek God's guidance. Not man or a woman.

I know the verses the BIBLE talks about. Women have to be silent in churches and are not to be in authority over men in no way . God's plans never contradict His Word. God does not want women to lead men since man is the head of the woman ! But He commands them to teach the other women seven particular points which are purposely overlooked by the modern rebellious church.

No, the women would have to go to market because back then if men were regularly visiting a home where only a woman and possibly her children were present is was considered sketchy and there would be suspicions that she were a prostitute. Please do some research on ancient Mesopotamian cultures. And that was only one example out of the 4 examples I gave that you picked out, she would still need to venture outside for the other 3.I truly hope you're just some troll and really aren't this sheltered.
