The conclusion of the first act of Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci," when Canio discovers his wife's infidelity, but must nevertheless prepare for his performance as Pagliaccio the clown because the 'show must go on'. Sung by Enrico Caruso in 1907 and reenacted by Eric Anderson 101 years later.
