This special came out in 1983 the same year as Octopussy and Never Say Never Again

Never noticed this before but at 2:57 you can see the director in the back seat. His hand enters frame briefly to give a cue and for the rest of the scene you can see the edge of his shirt in frame.

how did they get away with this? :) Broccoli/Eon productions didn't sue? At the beginning of the UNCLE series in the 60s, the creators were particular in not copying anything from the Bond movie franchise. They even did away with Ian Fleming's background story for Solo. But HERE, there's a turnaround. How come?

I really can't tell you. I know very very little about UNCLE. This was years after the original series and it was a one-off special, they wanted special guests and they probably figured is there a Bond actor who be easy to get.

Officially he's not James Bond but JB (but of course we know its Bond)

From what I read from fans of UNCLE is that this special wasn't executed very well and the only redeeming factors is seeing Vaughan and McCallum again and Lazenby driving the Aston

I Like the Lazenby cameo ! I have always like the idea of heroes living in " shared Universes." They are a great deal of fun! There is an ( off panel) appearence by Lamont Cranston in one of the new Avenger novels written in the early 1970's!

Care to justify that with a little more than bald assertion Fred? ;)

Dalton's films were great I thought, mainly because of his portrayal of the character rather than the plots (I thought The Living Daylights was rather convoluted, but fun). Don't get me wrong, I think Moore is a nice guy, but his Bond generally wasn't Bond.

I disagree. The Dalton films are great and Timothy Dalton is my favorite James Bond with Craig and Lazenby being in the top 3.
