Crusader Rabbit should be an inspiration to anyone who wants to try animation. It's technically pretty easy and with good ideas, writing and drawing, you can tell a complex and interesting story. A great place to learn about economy of means and still make something great. All animation schools should have their students study this.

These were "animated" in a garage in Berkley Ca.

This was made back when kids material wasn't dumbed down so their brains wouldn't be taxed.

For the full story of Jay Ward's involvement with the original "CRUSADER" series, 'Golum', I suggest you read Keith Scott's brilliant book on Ward, "The Moose That Roared"...

This show was made mostly so that Jay Ward could justify buying a run down cartoon studio, which he intended to sell to Mr. Terry but the old skinflint was having none of that!

Paul Terry had so much greatness move through his studio but never capitalized on it. From Jay Ward, to Gene Deitch, to Carlo Vinci, to Jim Tyer, to Ralph Bakshi. He just wasn't able to sell himself like Disney was... But anyway I agree with you
One can see the budding genius of Jay Ward in this simple series--one of my early childhood faves.

Third chapter of "Crusader Vs. the State Of Texas". Special mention should be made of the cast of voices:
Lucille Bliss {Crusader}, Vern Louden {Rags & "Vernon the Vulture"}, and Roy Whaley {"The Narrator"}. They, along with Russ Coughlan, did all the voices in all 195 episodes of the original series {"The Ten Crusades"}.
