Viola - opera(1884)

Viola je název zamýšlené a zčásti zkomponované opery Bedřicha Smetany. Libreto pro skladatele zpracovala Eliška Krásnohorská podle známé komedie Večer tříkrálový Williama Shakespeara. Jde tedy o jediné Smetanovo scénické dílo, které čerpalo inspiraci z klasického fondu světové literatury a jehož děj není lokalizován do českého prostředí. Smetanův dramaturgický posun k velkým světovým námětům, byť jen zamýšlený či pouze z malé části realizovaný, je pozoruhodný a naznačuje otevřenost skladatelova myšlení i jeho další možný vývoj v budoucnosti, které se již nedožil. Smetana začal s kompozicí Violy již v roce 1874, práci však odložil a vrátil se k ní až v závěru života, kdy rozepsal svou rovněž nedokončenou orchestrální fresku Pražský karneval. Fragment opery Viola tvoří 365 taktů, tj. přibližně 14 minut hudby.

Viola - Opera (1884)

Viola is the name of the intended partly composed operas and Bedrich Smetana. Libretto of the composer prepared according Eliška Krásnohorská known comedy Twelfth-night William Shakespeare. It's absolutely great that you posted this!!! It would've been one of Smetana's greatest pieces, had he finished it, and a counterargument to those who think him a limited nationalistic composer. However, there are many other pieces of his that show that his view was much broader. Why, the symphonic poems Richard III (Shakespeare) or Hakon Jarl (inspired by Swedeish history) and so on. He didn't make his name by writing Czech music - he made the name of Czech music by giving his talents to it.
