Ski racing is far and away the most popular organized snow sport. This clip looks at how young alpine racers in New York State train and compete. Another RadXSports video with host Tony Lanza.

Old ski racers never die, they just move on to Nastar courses and try different types of equipment, like these Telemark racers running against the clock at Gore Mountain. Once you're bitten by the speed bug, it's an incurable addiction.

The infection takes hold most dramatically in the young. They get involved in organized races like the ones staged by New York State Ski Racing Association Juniors program.

Young boy and girl speeders go to camps to improve efficiency on skis and shave fractions off their times. NYSEF, or the New York State Ski Education Foundation, runs camps at the Olympic mountains, Gore and Whiteface.

USSA events aren't the only way kids can compete. Well developed High School programs across America develop skills and character in a highly competitive environment. Section 9 in the Catskills is one of the top programs in New York. It is dominated by the boys and girls from Onteora High School.

Onteora and Belleayre Mountain's Jess Tar is one tough competitor, intent and focused on the task at hand. Concentration in the start gate gives way to adrenaline and reaction on the course. There's no time to think, you just do it.

Never give up, not even after a fall. A fast recovery can still make a difference in the overall standings.
