Nice thoughts, but I suspect 'making the world a better place' wasn't the prime motivation for the leaders of many of the recently collapsed financial institutions, let alone for the likes of Madoff or Stanford. Perhaps that's why they failed - although their selfishness worked for a while - will we see a new altruism in financial institutions?

While the dominant argument is one of rights, the concept of net benefit to society is lost.
Is society really better off when punishment includes asset seizure and restrictions after jail that leave the offender no choice but to continue a life of crime.
The message of net benefit also gets lost in the filter of ideology. (Who's world)
I would like to have seen more emphasis on net benefit over the long term. Will society be a better place in a hundred years?
As always great stuff

Business to make world better place - provoking great debate here which I have enjoyed reading. Interested in reading examples of the OPPOSITE of this, and examples where company really seems to get it.
